Advocacy

CMAA focuses on grassroots advocacy to harness the voices of its members and collectively impact rulemaking by local, state, and federal government. Through education and engagement outreach, CMAA members can actively participate in the legislative and regulatory process and gain insights for complying with changing laws and regulations.

Federal Legislation & Regulation—Through clubindustryvotes.org, CMAA monitors thousands of pieces of federal and state legislation and regulation annually. Monitored issues include mandated benefits, wage requirements, seasonal workers, occupational safety and health, and any/all tax changes that would impact non-profit 501c7 or section 277 taxable clubs. Collectively, much of our federal work is successful through active participation in coalitions as we harness the collaborative efforts of other associations and groups with the same issue interest. CMAA is an active participant in the American Golf Industry Coalition, the H-2B Workforce Coalition, and the Waters of the US (WOTUS) Advocacy Coalition.

State Legislation & Regulation—CMAA tracks legislation in each state in the areas of equipment bans, paid leave requirements, pay transparency, predictive scheduling, pesticide bans and preemption laws, property taxes, wages, and water access. Additionally, each of CMAA’s 40 Chapters has a Legislative Chair, and CMAA provides consultation to its Chapters on handling state and local issues and supports grassroots efforts through its technology platform, clubindustryvotes.org.

Webinars and Resources—Stay current with the latest information through the regularly updated Legislative Report blog, action alerts, social media alerts, and the monthly legislative summary email. CMAA provides information to help you understand and comply with changing laws and regulations through webinars, podcasts, education sessions, and more.
