Club Leadership Summits Announced for Fall 2022

Set your club’s strategic direction and improve alignment with your Board of Directors this fall with CMAA’s Club Leadership Summits. These Summits bring together club management professionals and their club’s elected leader(s) for cooperative education and engagement on best practices and trends.

Prepare your club’s elected leadership for success with focused information on relevant strategic topics including:

  • Governance – evaluating organizational health; board orientations, self-evaluation, and efficacy; roles and responsibilities; and evolving trends
  • Finance – exploring the financial model of clubs and its relevancy to successful governance; using a data-driven decision-making process
  • Club Trends – engaging multiple generations of members; embracing strategy

On September 7, the Summit will be presented virtually, enabling attendance from anywhere with a computer and Internet access.

On November 30, the Summit will be held at the Beach Point Club in Mamaroneck, NY. Situated on Long Island Sound, the Beach Point Club boasts breathtaking views, a beautiful clubhouse with a first-rate dining program, a full-service marina, youth programs, tennis courts and a platform tennis complex, an outdoor dining pavilion, swimming pools, cabanas, and a beach.

These highly rated Summits are presented in partnership with Kopplin Kuebler & Wallace, a CMAA Business Partner.

Answer Your Questions: CCM FAQs

What are the benefits of having the Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation?

The CCM designation highlights your achievements, serves as a tangible indictor of your experience, and knowledge and stays with you throughout your career. In addition, the CCM may:

  • enhance your marketability throughout the club management industry;
  • provide networking opportunities with other club managers;
  • support and continued education to keep you informed of the latest developments and cutting-edge technologies;
  • provide increased employee value, both real and perceived; and
  • increase your confidence on the job.

How much is the petition fee?

The fee to submit your Certification Petition is $75.

Do you have to be a member of CMAA to sit for the CCM exam?

Currently, you must be a Professional member of CMAA for a minimum of 6 years.

What are my options for sitting for the exam?

There are two options for sitting for the exam. You can take the exam proctored or attend the Joe Perdue Certification Review Course held in Atlanta, GA, at Georgia State University. A proctored exam requires you to self-study for the exam. The Certification Review Course is a five-day review of the material and the exam is taken immediately following the program.

How do I schedule my proctored examination appointment?

Following approval from submitting the Certification Petition, you must submit the Certification Exam Registration form and pay the exam fee of $195. You need to secure an appointment with a local testing center.

How can I find the nearest location for the proctored exam?

You can set for a proctored exam at a local college/university that has a testing center. You may also schedule an appointment with a secure, private testing company. Once the appointment has scheduled, submit the Certification Exam Registration form with the contact information to be confirmed.

President and CEO’s Perspective: Managing Stress

Jeffrey MorganHello CMAA Members! In some respects, the last two years of life in a pandemic have been a blur. I can hardly remember the early days of worries about restriction of nonessential travel between states; the closing of non-essential businesses for a time; or not having toilet paper! But like you, I have certainly felt pandemic-induced stress over the last couple of years with concerns for home, family, work, staff, and friends during this period. To better understand the impact of the past two years, the American Psychological Association conducted a study on current stress in America.

According to the study, despite the pandemic being a stress-inducing event, the current level of inflation is the most stressful event for Americans since 2007. Top areas of our current stress are: 1) inflation, 2) supply chain issues, 3) global uncertainty, 4) Russian retaliation, and 5) the Ukrainian invasion by Russia. As one might expect, inflation and monetary concerns were most worrisome for younger Americans and lessened with the age of the respondent.

CMAA Volunteers – We Are Grateful for Your Service

April 17-23 is National Volunteer Week – an annual celebration observed globally to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism and volunteering. For CMAA, it’s an opportunity to thank the hundreds of volunteers who work collaboratively to provide valuable services, to recognize you for your valuable contributions, and to inspire new volunteers to get involved.

So, whether you serve your local CMAA Chapter, participate on a CMAA National Committee, assist at national and chapter events, or volunteer in your local communities – THANK YOU! The CMAA community and the world is a better place because of people like you, and we hope you see your efforts toward advancing CMAA’s mission and vision in everything we do.

Being a volunteer is a demanding task, so thank you for contributing so much of your time, energy, and efforts to it. CMAA is grateful for your service and looks forward to many more opportunities to learn from you to keep our momentum going. You make a BIG difference!

Have You Managed the Same Club for 25 Years?

Have you been in a management position at your club for 25 or more consecutive years? If so, we would first like to commend you on the dedication and hard work that you have committed to the industry. Secondly, we would like to extend our invitation for you to be a member of CMAA’s 25-Year Club.

Membership in the 25-Year Club is open to “any member of CMAA who shall have been the manager of the same bona fide club for 25 consecutive years.” Managers are invited to become members upon receipt of statements of eligibility from their clubs. There are no dues or admission fees; the purpose of the club is to promote special relations among its members.

With more than 70 current members, we look forward to welcoming even more inductees. New members to the 25-Year Club are recognized at each World Conference. If you meet the eligibility requirements, please contact Erica Benjamin for further information.

Give Today or Give Tomorrow

There are many ways to support grants and scholarships through The Club Foundation. Most members donate by making one or more direct tax-deductible contributions throughout the year, but there are many who choose to give over time:

  • Make a recurring donation. You can schedule a small recurring automatic donation. This is often a great way to provide a stream of revenue that fuels scholarships, without having to make a large contribution. Recurring donations from those who donate this way add up over the year and truly makes a difference for scholarship recipients!
  • Make a pledge. Anyone can donate by making a pledge, just fill out a pledge form to get started - and choose what amount to donate, on what frequency, and for how long.

Join the Legacy Society. By adding The Club Foundation as a beneficiary in your will, donating from your IRA, or donating through your life insurance policy or trust, you can support The Foundation without making a cash contribution.

Scholarship Recipient Campaign: 70 Percent to Goal

Our Scholarship Recipient Campaign is live through April 30. A large percentage of past scholarship recipients are donating regularly because they understand first-hand, how critical scholarships and grants can be to members pursuing professional development. Our goal is to raise $5,000 together and we are more than 70 percent of the way to our goal. Help us put it over the top! Check out the campaign page to see who has donated so far and how we are doing! You can also text CFSCHOLAR to 71777 to donate now.
