Honor Extraordinary Club Management Professionals

Do you know a club management professional who sets the standard for excellence? It's time to recognize and honor their achievements! Annually, Club Management magazine recognizes excellence in club leadership with the Club Executive of the Year Award. Originally known as the Club Manager of the Year, this distinction was created in 1985 by Club Management magazine to honor an individual who by his or her achievements best represents the qualities found in hard-working, dedicated club management leaders. In 2008, the award was re-titled to mirror the evolution of the profession.

Today, the distinction highlights one club management professional annually who demonstrates mentoring, creates a supportive club culture, and sustains ongoing engagement with their local CMAA Chapter.

CMAA welcomes and encourages nominations from diverse backgrounds and work experiences.

2024 Nominations must include specifics on how the nominee has fostered and embraced the three criteria in the past one to three years:

  • Mentoring;
  • Creating a club culture which supports the staff team through on-going educational opportunities and crisis assistance; and
  • Demonstrating sustained engagement with their local CMAA Chapter.

Help us honor an extraordinary club management professional who has truly raised the bar in club management and within the CMAA community.

All Nominations must be received by September 10.

Apply for the Sally Burns Rambo Scholarship

In 2012, the Texas Lone Star Chapter and The Club Foundation introduced the Sally Burns Rambo Scholarship. To honor Sally’s commitment and dedication to club management, the Sally Burns Rambo Scholarship was initiated to support education for female club industry professionals. Last month, the Texas Lone Star Chapter gave a $10,000 contribution for direct support of the Sally Burns Rambo Scholarship. For more details about the past recipients from across the country and to view the application guidelines, please visit The Club Foundation's website application page. Applications for 2024 are due September 1.

“We’re so pleased that Sally’s legacy lives on through this scholarship,” said Sam Brewster, Managing Director of the Texas Lone Star Chapter. “Her passion for helping people has inspired many and motivated the Chapter to continue raising funds for her scholarship at our semi-annual Yellow Rose Ball. After all, Sally loved a good party!”

Sally Burns Rambo, CCM, served as a mentor and role model and paved the way for the success of countless club industry leaders. She served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the CMAA Texas Lone Star Chapter. She was later elected to two, three-year terms on CMAA's National Board of Directors. In 1991 she was elected the first Texan and first woman CMAA Club Manager of the Year. After retirement, she served and supported a variety of charitable entities, including The Club Foundation, Cattle Baron's Ball, Cancer Society, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, and Cedar Creek Library. She was named Citizen of the Year and given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chamber of Commerce and was chosen as Rotarian of the Year.
