We Need You: Volunteer to Introduce Speakers at World Conference
The 2022 World Conference and Club Business Expo will feature more than 60 education sessions. Each year, the Education Department relies on the kindness of volunteers to introduce the session speakers. Please consider introducing one or more sessions. The process is simple. First, visit the Volunteer Page and look for the sessions that you are planning to attend. If you see a session that you would like to introduce, you just need to click on the “click here to reserve” link and enter your information.
You will receive a confirmation email with the session date, time, and room location listed. Once on site, just stop by the Member Services Pavilion about 15 minutes prior to the session and a member of the Education Department team will give you the introduction text. Each introduction takes about three minutes. Please feel free to contact David McCabe if you have any questions.
Thank you in advance to all who volunteer to introduce speakers.

President & CEO’s Perspective: Looking Back by the Numbers
Numbers are an arithmetical value, expressed by a word, symbol, or figure, representing a particular quantity and used in counting and making calculations and for showing order in a series or for identification. February is when CMAA releases its annual report, audit, and I share an update in my State of the Association address at World Conference. So let me use numbers to share our journey over the past year.
2021 CMAA Annual Report: Adapt, Evolve, Improve
The 2021 CMAA Annual Report was just released. In a year where members continued to work to adapt to changing conditions, evolve as individuals and club leaders, and strive for continuous improvement, the Report highlights the Association’s developments in record membership growth, professional development and events, advocacy, member services, and business development, along with key information from its subsidiaries, The Club Foundation and the Club Spa and Fitness Association. Paired with the audited financial statements, it includes summaries from the 2021 CMAA Chairman Brian Kroh, CCM, and President & CEO Jeff Morgan, FASAE, CAE.
Explore CMAA’s New Website
You may have noticed something different at cmaa.org recently. Not long after the new year we launched our newly designed site. We’re very excited about it and quite pleased with the positive response. If you haven’t had a chance to poke around much, we hope you’ll take the opportunity to do so. We’ll highlight a few items below that we think might be helpful.
First, a brief rundown on how we arrived at the new design. Sometimes, a new look is all that’s required. In this case, a great deal more was required. In fact, you could say we did three things at once. We completed a redesign, but we also spent significant energy on Content Strategy and finally, we transitioned to a new platform and infrastructure model. Each of these efforts serve an important purpose and can be done independently. As for the results? Let’s focus on what that means for people like you, consumers of the site.
Foremost, we wanted to deliver a modern looking site that is reflective of the club industry. There are plenty of design options and there are always tradeoffs to consider. We believe that the site today is more reflective of the industry, it’s modern without being too cutting edge. We’re using modern strategies and taking advantage of current best practices to make sure the site is easily accessible on desktop computers to mobile phones without degrading the end user experience.
Like many things, the hardest part of any redesign is change. Some of you like to bookmark pages and are wondering where your content is. Let’s discuss a few popular content items.
Keep an eye on our main page! We’ll be using the main page to call attention to the latest CMAA events, exciting content, and important announcements you won’t want to miss.
- Site Login – moved to the top right which is common practice. You’ll notice that after you log in, more options are available to you here. Of note: Find your Profile Page, easy access to Credit History and the Directory.
- Site Search – a new search tool but more importantly, we have organized and structured content in a way that we think will make it easier to find.
- Learn – From BMIs and certifications to summits and the World Conference, this new section is where you will now find all your professional development needs.
- Award Programs – CMAA offers a variety of awards programs for individuals and chapters, and now they can all be found in this central location.
- Publications – Missed an issue of Outlook or an episode of the podcast? Our publications listing includes back issues as well as our new blog: The Coaching Dept.
- ClubCareers – perennially a top content item. Located on the top-level navigation, the underlying items are more accessible.
- Credit History – another popular favorite, we listened to your feedback and have added additional functionality. You can now see in one click, the most recent credits (of any type) that have been added for you, listed chronologically. If you choose, scroll through prior months or years.
We hope you find the site is easier to use, that content is more accessible and quicker to find. But you should also know that we’re not done. Debuting the new version of the site has been considered a major milestone all along, but the process moves on. We’ll be putting new practices in place to make sure content remains relevant and soliciting feedback from you to help us improve and guide new features, so stay tuned!

OSHA Reporting: February and March Deadlines
Annually, clubs are responsible for meeting their recordkeeping obligations to OSHA. Don’t forget these upcoming February and March requirements.
February 1–April 30: Clubs have an annual regulatory obligation to post a copy of OSHA's Form 300A, which summarizes job-related injuries and illnesses logged during the previous year. Each year between February 1 and April 30, the summary must be displayed in a common area where notices to employees are usually posted. Don't forget to keep your 2021 form posted until April 30.
March 2: Clubs with 250 or more employees at time of peak employment must annually electronically submit information from the OSHA Form 300A (Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses). The portal is open now and all information must be submitted no later than Wednesday, March 2.
For more information on these requirements, visit OSHA’s Recordkeeping Rule webpage.

CMAA and Golf Industry Allies Oppose Revision to the Waters of the US Definition
On February 7, CMAA and its allies in the golf and club community submitted official comments to the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of the Army regarding the revisions to the definition of the Waters of the US. In the written comments, the golf industry voiced opposition to the proposed rule, citing its impact on property owners by returning “permitting decisions to an unpredictable case-by-case determination of jurisdiction by the Agencies, thereby subjecting golf course professionals to considerable confusion about what features on their lands may be jurisdictional.”
