Membership and Member Benefits
Enter the 2023 Idea Fair
Did you and your team come up with an idea this year that is too good not to share with your peers? If so, enter the Idea Fair! The competition and showcase of ideas will be held at the 2023 World Conference & Club Business Expo, February 24-28 in Orlando, FL. Since the sharing of knowledge has always been the hallmark of CMAA, the Idea Fair is a great avenue for club managers to exchange ideas. The deadline to enter is January 23.
Each CMAA member is encouraged to enter—you do not need to attend Conference to enter or win. Regardless, appropriate recognition and two Association Activity Credits will be awarded to the winner in each of the 20 categories. Association Activity Credits will also be awarded to all members who enter.
You will submit your entries online and CMAA will print the board(s) for you! You will not be printing and shipping or hand carrying your entries like in past years.
In addition to the “Most Innovative Idea Award,” there will be a “Showstopper Award” and a “Chairman’s Award” given out by the judging committee. Make sure your idea stands out from the rest to be considered for these exciting new awards!
We look forward to seeing your ideas in Orlando!
Help Your Students Prepare for the Student Chapter Idea Fair and Shark Tank Competition
There are two opportunities at the 2023 World Conference and Club Business Expo for Student members to show off their ideas and interests.
The Student Chapter Idea Fair is your Chapter's chance to share as many ideas as you’d like across six different categories for a chance to win a $1,000 chapter grant from The Club Foundation. Show off everything your Chapter has done to be successful! Entries are due January 23, 2023.
The Student Shark Tank Competition is for any student member (or a group up to five) that has an innovative mind. Do you have an idea or product that you think the club industry could benefit from? Tell us about it! Learn more about this program and the chance to win a $1,000 Visa gift card. Entries are due January 18, 2023.
Rounding Out the 2022 Scholarship Awards
Recently, The Club Foundation granted multiple awards during the last cycle of scholarship applications in 2022. Applications for the LaRocca Family Executive Scholarship and the Willmoore H. Kendall Scholarships were due in November; in December, awardees were notified that their applications had been chosen.
LaRocca Family Executive Scholarship: In 2010, the LaRocca Family made a generous contribution to the Foundation to tap into a key characteristic of the Club Industry, mentorship. The vision behind the resulting LaRocca Family Executive Scholarship is to honor the long-standing industry culture of giving, giving back and providing mentorship and nurturing to emerging leaders in our profession. The scholarship provides support to mentor-mentee teams, including one established, experienced club leader and their aspiring mentee.
This year’s recipients are the Mentor-Mentee team of Eduardo A Castillo, Executive Chef, and Ricardo “Rico” Ramirez, Executive Sous Chef, who work together at The San Antonio Country Club, in San Antonio, TX.
Willmoore H. Kendall Scholarship: The Club Foundation has been awarding Kendall Scholarships for more than 20 years. The scholarship fund was established in memory of CMAA Past President, Bill Kendall. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide tuition support to club management professionals who are interested in pursuing their Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation. It is one of the most sought-after scholarships, covering the costs of all BMIs required for a CCM.
This year, a total of eight awardees were selected by the Club Foundation Allocation Committee:
- Kristin Aleshire, General Manager, The Cliff Dwellers, Chicago, IL
- Jacqulynn E. Barnes, Food & Beverage Director, Yacht Club of Stone Harbor, Stone Harbor, NJ
- Caitlin English, Assistant General Manager, Fairlawn Country Club, Akron, OH
- Stormy Flinchum, Assistant Clubhouse Manager, Governors Club, Chapel Hill, NC
- Christina E. Gusella, Clubhouse Manager, Flint Hills National Golf Club, Andover, KS
- Heidi Hilbert, Assistant Manager - Food & Beverage, Cherokee Town & Country Club, Atlanta, GA
- Alexia Horton, Clubhouse Manager, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Southampton, NY
- Paul M. Korbar, Operations Manager, Allegheny Country Club, Sewickley, PA
Gratitude for YOU!
Many thanks to all those of you who donated during 2022 and at the end of the 2022 tax year. The generousness of you and all those who include The Foundation as a giving priority is incredible— with more than a third of our members donating each year.
Happy New Year from all of us at The Club Foundation!

Read: The 2022 CMAA Finance and Operations Report
The 2022 CMAA Finance and Operations Report is now available. This year's report found the typical growth in membership annual dues (2021 vs. 2020) to be nearly 5 percent across most membership classes/types and the median member attrition rates to be 5.7 percent overall, 4.3 percent for golf and country clubs, 3.3 percent for city/athletic clubs, 3.7 percent for yacht clubs, and 4.6 percent for CIRA clubs.
All members have access to high level information through the Executive Summary and on CMAA University. The Executive Summary includes an infographic detailing key information from each operating revenue segment. Participants may access the Full Report, their Individual Club Report and the Report Card (featuring a few key metrics) on the Research Portal.
Club Resource Center subscribers receive a copy of the print report and have access to an online data analytics platform, which allows clubs to compare their data versus five peer groups and create customized aggregations of the survey results.

Submit Your Data to the Club Employee Demographic Assessment
The Club Employee Demographic Assessment, presented with support from The Club Foundation, will provide a baseline and snapshot of the demographics across the club industry. This three-year project will enable your club to benchmark your changing demographics over time.
According to the 2020 US Census, nearly four of 10 Americans identify with a race of ethnic group other than white. This is especially noteworthy for the younger portion of the population (16 & younger) identified as a racial or ethnic minority.
Diversity in the workplace means employing people of different ages, genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations, cultural backgrounds, and education levels.
We are asking for only one response per club. Participating in this assessment will allow you to gain insight into your team’s diversity and assist in formulating your own DEI strategy and tactics. Your information will be confidential.
Participation in this assessment will also provide data to help CMAA build education and resources to help clubs recruit and retain diverse talent, making it attractive for everyone to choose to work in clubs.

What’s Ahead for the Club Industry?
Participate in the 2022/2023 Club Leader’s Perspective Survey, a GGA Partners research initiative administered in partnership with CMAA. This survey unveils trends, reactions, and opportunities within the industry, offering a contemporary update on the pressing needs of club leaders across the country. The deadline to complete the 15-minute survey is January 22.
Individual responses to this survey will be confidential and the results will be reported in an aggregate format. The results, in summary form, will be available to those who complete the survey. Survey insights will enable club leaders, and the industry at large, to transform their clubs and gain insight into how clubs across the United States are faring.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this important ongoing initiative.
