Learning About Inclusive Workspaces with Legos

Niagara University

Entry Details

Building with Legos allowed members to express certain moments in their professional careers, such as a time where they felt nervous in a new position, then feeling accepted by their coworkers. It also allowed members to experience instances where their Lego character had different traits than others, and how that would be navigated in the workplace. Overall, the session was useful in gaining skills as a manager to lead their team effectively in the hospitality industry.

Implementation

It was implemented through Niagara University’s College of Hospitality, Sport, and Tourism, and was marketed for the CMAA Student Chapter members to join. The members enjoyed the experience due to the presence Legos and being allowed to build with them, and it created an interactive learning experience. They came out with a new insight into what different individuals experience in the workplace based on their race, religion, nationality, and background.
