Niagara University Alumni Advantage

Entry Details

Alumni advantage has helped our chapter in many different ways, including having the opportunity to reconnect with alumni who have graduated either recently, or a while back. Having these alumni who care to come back to speak to our chapter is so helpful because they were once college students, specifically at Niagara University, and have many of the same experiences that we currently have. It is helpful for us to have people like these individuals who are able to explain the transition from college into the real world, as well as help us to relate our interests into whatever job they are currently in. Most of all, we as students have the opportunity to ask questions to these alumni and get their tips and tricks as we all move closer to graduation and start our job search!

Implementation

This idea was implemented as we wanted to get more speakers at our meetings, specifically "themed" meetings such as a finance panel, food and beverage, and many more. We realized that there are so many CMAA alumni from Niagara University that we have connections to and how it would be perfect to use those connections to come in and speak to all of our students. Additionally, our Niagara University College of Hospitality, Sport, and Tourism hosts an Alumni Advantage event every year which is not directly related to our CMAA Chapter, but is where we originally got the idea from. Our members reactions have been outstanding and supportive toward this initiative. All of our members love the idea of having our alumni coming to speak to us as they feel they are able to relate to them more than a manager who attended another University.
