Best in Show Winner: Faculty Advisors

University of Massachusetts Student Chapter

Entry Details

Last year, we submitted the concept of the "UMass Case Study Project" to gather and write new case studies for the out-date case study book, Cases in Club Management.   This past Spring Semester 2024 and Summer 2024, all of the old case studies were re-written and updated and a number of new cases were written with the cooperation of club managers and club management students and the faculty advisor of the UMass Student Chapter serving as the book editor and coordinator.

Twenty-four (24) old cases were updated with new dialogue, club settings, and recommendations with teaching aids and twenty (20) new cases were developed.   New learning categories included facility renovations, recreation and sports programming, enhanced food and beverage, and membership marketing, and club technology cases.

Implementation

The idea was implemented with three (3) student chapter members reviewing and re-writing some of the older cases, writing at least two new cases and reaching out to two (2) club managers to collect new data on new case students.  The students earned independent course credits from 1 to 3 academic credits for their work and all work was completed on-time during the Spring Semester 2024 and all cases were completed and submitted to the Club Foundation and CMAA for editorial review in August 2024.  Some of the best cases were the ones the student wrote from their experiences in clubs.  The new case study book, titled "Case Studies in Club Management -- 'Story Telling 2024' was developed to fit the needs of courses taught in club management and for use in BMIs and other leadership course and class opportunities.
